SNAP Benefits Saved!

Great news! Governor Inslee announced today that Washington will take steps to preserve Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for approximately 200,000 households in Washington.

Under the Farm Bill passed by Congress earlier this year, changes were made to the “Heat and Eat” option used by many states (including Washington) for eligibility determination for SNAP.  These changes would have resulted in the loss of nearly $70 million in federal SNAP benefits.

The announcement today will prevent those cuts and help hungry families maintain their access to food stamps.

We hope you will join us in thanking the Governor by signing the Children’s Alliance online petition.  Please share this link with your networks.

Thank you to all who worked to protect this important benefit!
